Fri 22.8. Saarijärvi Church at 18
Students of the Sibelius Academy's conducting class, taught by Eva Ollikainen

Igor Stravinsky: Dumbarton Oaks
Matilda Seppälä: For the Win
György Ligeti: Concert Românesc
W.A. Mozart: Symphony No. 39
It's that time of year again when the conducting class of the Sibelius Academy moves for a moment to the heartlands of Finland to learn in the best possible way – by doing. The Finnish conducting phenomenon has always been built on collegiality and a deep connection to grassroots musical life, and there’s no need to fix what isn’t broken.
This time, the people of Muurame and Saarijärvi have the chance to witness, report on, and, of course, enjoy how Eva Ollikainen – one of our most internationally renowned maestros – helps rising talents take flight and soar ever higher. The program includes Stravinsky’s and Ligeti’s finely tuned and playfully neoclassical brilliance, Mozart’s timelessly refined nobility, and something brand new: Matilda Seppälä’s extreme and uproarious performance piece.
Once again: top quality straight from the future – enjoy!
