G. F. Handel: Messiah
Who was the man?
This question has echoed through two millennia, reshaping world history. The man is loved and hated. He loves, but he does not hate. Prophecies were spoken about him. He died – but rose from the dead. How? And above all: why?
The Baroque master Handel composed a colossal oratorio about this man in just three weeks, driven by a blinding surge of inspiration. When the climactic moment was finished, he wept with overwhelming emotion. And when the king heard it, he spontaneously rose to his feet. Everyone else followed.
You know that climax too. One word: Hallelujah.
What on earth is it all about? What do people think of it? Who was this man? All signs point to the fact that Handel’s masterpiece, shining brilliantly for nearly 300 years, contains answers to many of these questions. A brilliant solo quartet, the dazzling Musica Choir, and the Baroque experts of Ensemble Nylandia, led by Matias Häkkinen, will elevate the experience to its fullest rapture.
The concert is organized in collaboration with the Parish of Jyväskylä.
