Thu 9.4. Paviljonki at 18

Giuseppe Mengoli, conductor
Anton Mejias, piano

Joseph Haydn: L’anima del filosofo ‘Overture’,
W. A. Mozart: Piano Concerto No. 24
Ludwig van Beethoven: Symphony No. 3

The Viennese holy trinity: Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven. Specifically in this order – without Haydn, there would likely have been no Mozart or Beethoven; without Mozart, probably no Beethoven; and without Beethoven… well, not much that followed.

“Papa Haydn” was not only a playful symphonist but also a gifted mentor and teacher, capable of passing on the lessons of tradition with genuine warmth and humanity. Under his guidance, such contrasting personalities as the angelic Mozart and the fiery Beethoven could mature, and when the latter absorbed from the former, the baton of musical lineage passed seamlessly, forming the bridge known as Classicism – from Baroque to Romantic, from formal structures to expressive freedom, from institution to individual.

The program brings this philosophy to life: Haydn’s cheerful Overture, Mozart’s piano concerto, which grows hope from darkness, and Beethoven’s heroic symphony, which challenges ideals with reality. They share the same continuum, the same class reunion – interpreted by the young stars Giuseppe Mengoli and Anton Mejias.
