The All That Jazz concert whisks the audience away on a sparkling, nostalgic journey through the decades of jazz. The program traces the evolution of jazz music, from the ragtime era of the 1920s through bebop, cool jazz, and hard bop, all the way to today’s modern styles.

The evening’s soloist is Iiro Rantala, one of Finland’s most renowned jazz pianists and composers, celebrated for his soaring improvisations and versatile musical expression. With his playing and storytelling, Iiro guides listeners through the landmark moments of jazz’s last century—one moment in a Manhattan theater enjoying a George Gershwin concert, the next in Columbia’s 30th Street Studio, witnessing the creation of the legendary Kind of Blue album.

The concert is conducted by Teemu Takanen, who has also arranged the evening’s repertoire for the symphony orchestra. Audiences will hear some of jazz history’s most iconic works, including “King Porter Stomp” (1906–1923), “Caravan” (1936), “Confirmation” (1945), “Blue in Green” (1959), and “Spain” (1971). The program concludes with works from the 2000s, including original compositions by Iiro and Teemu themselves. It promises a unique evening where the soul of jazz meets symphonic brilliance!

Official afterparty & jam session!

The concert’s official afterparty takes place at Ravintola Poppari, featuring open jams hosted by the Jazz Jkl Collective, where the music flows freely in all directions, energized by local Jyväskylä musicians and the concert soloist.

The jam lineup includes Tuomas Paukku (guitar), Marian Petrescu (piano), Pekka Törmänen (bass), and Kasper Halttunen (drums). The jams kick off at 8:00 PM – free entry!
