Patrick Gallois
Patrick Gallois has in recent years dedicated an increasing amount of his time to conducting. Still active with flute performances and recordings, Gallois manages to keep a stable balance between the highest standards of both arts and leading a highly successful international career.
From the age of 17, Patrick Gallois studied with Jean-Pierre Rampal at the Paris conservatory. At 21 he was appointed 1st flute of the Orchestre National de France, under Lorin Maazel, and played under the direction of many famous conductors such as Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa, Pierre Boulez, Karl Boehm, Eugen Jochum, Sergiu Celibidache.
Flautist
In 1984 Gallois decided to focus on his solo career, which has taken him all over the world. He has given many first performances, also of works dedicated to him. In 2006, for instance, he performed the World Premier of the Flute Concerto "Casi Pantomime" by Rocco Abbate in Trieste. Gallois has also made several award-winning recordings for Deutsche Gramophone, Naxos and others.
Conductor
For 12 years, after creating his own orchestra in Paris, "l'Academie de Paris", Patrick Gallois has developed a conducting career, directing orchestras in Europe, Canada, Israel and Japan. Since 2003 he has been the Music Director of the Sinfonia Finlandia Jyväskylä/Jyväskylä Sinfonia.
Gallois conducts a wide repertoire from baroque to contemporary: all symphonies by Beethoven and Schubert have been performed under his direction, but also a number of first performances of works by Finnish, Canadian and French composers. Gallois has toured with the Sinfonia Finlandia in Europe and Japan; invited and re-invited by many orchestras, he has also conducted in Milan, Palermo, Sankt Gallen, Toronto, Ankara...
In the summer 2009, Patrick Gallois performed as well as gave master classes in Sienna Italy, France, Toronto and Tokyo. During the season 2009-2010 Gallois will conduct in Seoul, Sofia and Stockholm; in addition, he will give a regular concert series in Milan, Italy with the “I Pomerggi Musicali” orchestra.
